Welcome to my lair foolish mortals! Wha ha ha ha!

Nov. 25th, 2009 07:52 am Art does pay! See!

Our local bank holds coloring contests for the kids every month. This month Michelle colored a sheet and turned it in. To my surprise she won for this month and her prize is a ten dollar gift card to Wal-Mart. You would have thought she had won the lottery from her reaction. *wink* It's all very sweet when you think about it.

Who says being a talented artist doesn't pay?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a very bizarre email this morning. My Mom's cousins who live in San Antonio sent me a email saying that if I wanted to come to Thanksgiving dinner at their home my family was welcome and gave directions to her house. It's a very sweet gesture on their part.
But
-I live in Kansas City. San Antonio isn't exactly a quick drive away.
-I haven't heard from these people since I was a little kid. No Christmas cars, no Facebook interaction, nothing. It's just flat out bizarre that people I haven't spoken to in over 20 years would email me out of the blue to invite me to dinner.
-Hubby and I have to work Turkey Day.

It's one of those situations of 'It's the thought that counts.'

I know this is terrible to say...but I have moments where I'm out and about in the real world and I have moments where I think, "Lord give me strength not to lose my self control and laugh right now." I was at the Dollar Store picking up craft supplies. I overheard an elderly couple in the aisle next to mind gripe up a storm about how everything these days are so overpriced and they could find better deals somewhere else.

At the Dollar Store.

Can't make that up folks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At work I had a upper and downer moment. I had a group of Southwest flight attendants
check in and they gave my such a compliment. They said one of the reasons they always enjoyed staying at my hotel was that I was I was one of the sweetest, funniest and prettiest employees they had to deal with their job. Needless to say I was glowing. :)

But then one my co-workers gave a insult the same day about what a space cadet I am. (There's no doubt about that. I openly admit I mostly reside on planet la la land.) Having someone point out one of your personality flaws is a lot like asking someone if you look fat in a dress (knowing you do) and someone replies, "You look like a hippo."

But it's better than having someone say I'm a crazy bitch. *shrugs*

There's rumors going on right now that The Who ( or at least the members who are still alive) are going to be playing the Superbowl! 2010 is looking to be a good year music wise so far!

You Would Be a Witty Celebrity

There's a good chance that your big break would come from being funny. You have a well crafted sense of humor.

And while you may branch out into other areas, your cutting insight and sarcasm would always be your trademark.

As a celebrity, you would not be afraid of publicity stunts and working the press a little. You wouldn't take any of it very seriously.

You'd be a celebrity in the mold of Tina Fey, Sara Silverman, Seth Rogen, and Will Ferrell.

Nov. 1st, 2009 07:25 am A belated Happy Halloween!

Michelle and I had a busy day.
-We went to a kids Halloween party at our local shopping center. It was crowded and most of the party was essentially waiting in line for candy. But Michelle enjoyed it and that's what counts. Radio Disney co-sponsored it and having their station BLASTED on loud speakers I'm even more convinced that if you're a teenage girl with a recording contract you must have a irritating singing voice. Just tell everybody what a 'good girl' you are and people will buy your albums. Sorry for the side rant, but I'd rather they would have played "Monster Mash" or other Halloween music instead while we were in line.

-Then we went to the grocery store. Michelle griped that it's wrong to do everyday shopping on a holiday, but when you're out of milk you're out of milk.

-We went to our church's Halloween party. Got more candy and Michelle got to play with her buddies.

-About this time Hubby got off of work and it had gotten dark so we fit the local neighborhood for trick-or-treating. Sad to say I started to get worn down before Michelle did. So after about an hour they dropped me off home and they got some ice cream.

So I'm sugared out, but it was a good Halloween this year. Now I'm going to start dreading the 'holiday' hype that won't stop 'till the New Year. *wink* So I'm going to leave my pumpkin icon up for a few more days.

Oct. 28th, 2009 05:12 pm Out of all the things to make the news

So Monday night I'm heading downtown to see Bruce Springsteen in concert. Driving around I noticed there was barely any traffic. If there's a concert, sports game or convention in downtown Kansas City traffic is pretty much a standstill. Anyway I get to the Sprint Center thinking there would be a MUCH bigger turn out for the Boss. Then I look up at the billboards around the Sprint Center and all the signs posted SPRINGSTEEN CANCELED TONIGHT.

Sad the say the first thought going through my head was how much time I had wasted on my hair and make-up.

I was really bummed out and disappointed. But I drove back up to my side of KC to my local ticketmaster office and they gave a refund. When I got home it turns out Bruce's cousin who's also his road manager had died just hours before in his hotel room. These things happen.

Well anyway Bruce canceling the concert got on Yahoo news and Rolling Stone's music blog. It's so odd seeing KC it the mainstream media. Unless it's a serial killer the news outlets seem to ignore my hometown.

Funny how my (and 15,000 other people) big letdown has been all over the media like it's real news.

Oct. 25th, 2009 06:23 pm Mad house busy!

I got to help out with Michelle's Halloween party. It was great. If nothing else I got to leave a training seminar at work about idenity theft early. (Hee hee suckers!) I basically helped kids put their costumes on, keep their costumes on and made sure they didn't ground candy into the carpet. Nothing is more adorable than little kids at Halloween. They are just so cute at that stage! :)

It made me feel like a complete dork that I had to explain who the heck various Transformers, Star Wars and Power Ranger characters were to other Moms. But that instantly made me a goddess to the five-year-old boys there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tomorrow I'm seeing Bruce Springsteen in concert! Who hoo! As my Hubby lovingly put it-"Your paying money to watch a old man shake his ass in tight jeans."

Yup. :)

When I drop Michelle off at school I take a short cut through a local outdoor shopping area. Anyway today maintenance guys were putting up Christmas lights all around the trees and stores there.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't even have my Halloween costume yet.

Oct. 5th, 2009 07:09 pm Life has it's odd moments

Michelle and I were at the Goodwill, doing typical thrift store stuff. Michelle had to go to the bathroom. So while she was doing her business (little kids take forever) I was waiting outside. Now at this store all the bookshelfs are right next to the bathroom. A lady in a electronic scooter pulled up to me while I looking through CD's.
Lady:Where's are the books?
Me:Uh, they're right in front of you.
The gal looked confused.
Lady:I like love stories. Do you know any good love stories.
I'm here baffled why she would ask that.
Me:No, I don't read stuff like that. I read non-fiction.
Lady:What's that?
Me:Info books. (I can't tell a middle aged stranger at the Goodwill I read slash fiction online.)
Lady:You mean real stuff?
Me:Yeah.
Lady:But I don't like that. I like love stories.
Me:There seems to be a whole bunch of romance novels on the top shelfs.
Trust me every thrift shop has ugly 80's clothes and beat up romance novels. It's the law.
Lady:But where are they?
me: The very top shelves.
Lady:Oh. Why are they there?
Now I had a few CD's in my hands while the bizarre conversation was going on. The gal in the scooter saw I had a NSYNC album in my hands. Gave my a dirty look and then drove off.

A. I figured the poor gal was on a ton of medicine and was probably confused.
B.I haven't had anybody give me a dirty look for having a NSYNC album in my hands in almost ten years.

Just a weird moment all around.

Sep. 27th, 2009 04:15 pm Misc things

Michelle was grounded this week. Part of being a parent, you're going to be the bad guy at some point. I couldn't help but laugh when Michelle blurted, "Mommy! You're sticking me in kid's jail!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
U2 was amazing on SNL last night! I hate to say it they perform better on TV when they're in the middle of tour. Bono has to be in his grove, you know?

I'm so grateful for tivo on many levels. I got to fast forward every scene where Megan Fox pulls her snobby high school popular girl bit that she and every horny guy in America seems to thinks counts as 'acting.' (Yes, I'm a hater and we always be hatin') So I could pass that and watch my boys perform. Technology does have moments where it does make the world a better place. :)

Sep. 19th, 2009 02:50 pm Arrggghhhh matey!

I would gladly trade Talk like a Pirate Day for Valentine' Day as a real holiday. Everybody could join in! Not just people with committed romantic relationships. Plus I'd rather see a string a pirate movies than romantic comedies playing in the movie theater any day.

When I went to the Hallmark Store this week to get Hubby a B-Day card they had a TON of Pirates of the Caribbean cards so maybe they're one step ahead.

Sep. 3rd, 2009 06:46 pm Can I invent the term hypocritical hippie?

One thing I noticed ever since Michelle has started Elementary school is how there always seem to be a fundraiser going on. It baffles me how our Government can shell out billions to corporations than run themselves to the ground and to pointless wars-but our schools always need money. You need a good education for your children for a strong future for your country.

But Hubby works for Citibank and received a raise after Uncle Sam gave them a few billions earlier this year. So I guess that makes me a very hypocritical hippie to a extent. *wink*

On a lighter note U2 is rumored to be the musical guest for the new season of Saturday Night Live on Sept.26. Who hoo! Unlike my icon it should be mullet-less.

Aug. 26th, 2009 05:09 pm You're going to have to deal with that 5% at some time.

Warning: A rant is ahead. *wink*

Hubby and I have this theory that 90% of people are sane, nice, level-headed and all around good people. Then you have that 10% who make things difficult for the other 90%. Then you have that 5% that make thing really difficult for everyone. When these people are let loose on the internet-watch out!! Unfortunately you're going to have to deal with these folks at some point. Youtube, Facebook, MySpace, message boards or a chatroom, you're going to have to deal with these trolls somewhere on the 'net. The ones who can't deal with the fact that someone out there has a opinion different than theirs. Because you know all six (or is it seven now) billion people on this planet should think the same way they do. ;)

Anyhoo I've been lucky that I've somehow avoiding dealing with those not-so-lovely people. Until earlier this week. On a music message board all I did was type that Taylor Swift is a celeb people love or hate. I soon got attacked my a hoard of teen girls that said I'm a evil, horrible, terrible person who must hate herself because Taylor Swift is a musical genius who is a angel and simply the most perfect human being God has ever created! (More or less)

Yeah.

Honestly what the heck has Taylor Swift done that deserves this obsessive worship? There's a lot of girls who sing better. *cough*Carrie Underwood *cough* There's a lot of girls who are prettier. There's a lot of people who write better songs. I don't see that girl doing any charity work. She's one of the few Nashville stars who hasn't gone overseas for the troops. So in the middle of a recession why do people worship a whiny millionaire's daughter? If Taylor Swift is 1/100 the perfect saint her crazy fans were freaking out on me that is, then she would be embarrassed by their behavior online.

I guess you have the crazy fans that make everyone look bad.

But I guess it was time to run into nutjobs online. As TS' ex Joe Jonas once said, "People are more obnoxious and hateful online because they can be anonymous."

On a lighter note did you hear Bob Dylan is releasing as Christmas album? How crazy/campy/cool/weird is that? :D

I've had some busy days!

-I got to see Franz Ferdinand and Green Day on Weds! I'll have a separate post for that.

-Thursday was back to school night for Michelle. She got to meet her Kindergarten teacher and see her classroom. Her new teacher's name is Mrs. Patsy. She came off as being incredibly cold and disdainful. I hoping that it's one of those situations where you have a bad first impression of a person-but they grow on you later. But she seems to get along with the kids and ultimately that's what matters. We then went to the gym where they had tables about the extra circular stuff the kids could do. (Scouts, sports, so forth) Michelle seemed uneasy with all the commotion, but that's understandable. She's half scared, half excited about starting elementary school.

-Friday after work I took Michelle to a playdate at Chuck E. Cheese. In theory if a kid's been playing for two hours they should be exhausted, right? But as the night wore on, the more wound up Michelle got. Maybe kids just drain energy from their parents. :)
Yes I spend my Friday nights at Chuck E. Cheese. But come on, skeeballs fun!

-Today was my birthday. Thank you for all the birthday wishes. To be honest with Michelle's first day of Kindergarten tomorrow, I've been more preoccupied with that. Aging isn't always fun, but anything that's an excuse for cake is fine with me.

Aug. 8th, 2009 06:00 pm More adventures in retail.

Michelle spent the week at my Moms. Anyway since I didn't have to be a positive role model Hubby and I grabbed some vodka at Wal-Mart. ( I never drink around Michelle. Or swear for that matter. I'm paranoid every little thing will put us on Dr.Phil in ten years.) When the cashier rang up our stuff, she gave me a dirty look and said, "I need some ID."
I replied, "I'm getting carded?"
The cashier kept on giving me a nasty look and repeated,"Of course I need some ID."
I pulled out my driver's license from my Hello Kitty purse (yes I have one) and replied, "Honey you just made my day!"
The cashier didn't seem amused, but it helped my ego. It's a nice early birthday present. :p

Jul. 22nd, 2009 07:54 pm Yahoo news ...................

I went to check my email on Yahoo and THIS http://omg.yahoo.com/news/taco-bell-chihuahua-dies-at-15/25534?nc was posted on the front page.

Now I like those commercials as much as the next person. But am I the only one who finds celebrity gossip almost trivial with all the turmoil going on in the world? Not that the dog wasn't cute or anything. :)

I found this odd because I've lived in the midwest my whole life! Go figure!

Which American accent do you have?

Northeastern

This could either mean an r-less NYC or Providence accent or one from Jersey which doesn't sound the same. Just because you got this result doesn't mean you don't pronounce R's.(People in Jersey don`t call their state "Joisey" in real life)

Jul. 19th, 2009 08:20 am odd thoughts

Hubby and I didn't have the big, blow-out wedding. We went to the court house, said "I do", made it legal and that was that. I HATE weddings! I think they're a waste of money with the divorce rate being what it is in our world. Plus watching my parent's BS excuse of a marriage I vowed I'd never get married so I wouldn't be stuck in a nasty relationship like my mother. Looking back that's some pretty harsh views for a kid to have. But kids know what's going on more than what adults give them credit for. Besides Hubby and I had been together for five years and had been living together for a year and a half. We already felt married, we just need the piece of paper to make my Mom happy.

Anyway fast forward a few years down the line Michelle keeps on getting on my case why we didn't have the big wedding. She wants pictures of me in the gown and all that stuff. Explaining that we didn't want to blow money we didn't have is a little hard to explain to a five-year-old. The irony is that most of her buddies parents who did have the big weddings are getting divorced right now. So when Michelle says, "How come you don't have pretty wedding pictures like Suzy's mom?" I'm thinking, "Well Suzy's mom and dad are splitting up. A lot of good those pretty pictures are now." I know that's harsh and cynical. But I feel our culture puts more value on the wedding than the marriage itself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back-to-school time is a great time of the year if you're a craft person. You can get all the basics dirt cheap! When you have a kid that goes through crayons, papers, pencils, markers and so forth at the rate Michelle does it's just common sense to stock up when they're on sale. I was at Wal-Mart picking up on stuff for Michelle. I had a big stack of Littlest Petshop, Jonas Brothers and Disney Princess stuff for her. The cashier was ringing everything up. When it was time to scan to JoBro stuff she stopped, gave me the DIRTIEST look a cashier has ever given me and continued to give me a 'your a perv' look as she rang everything else up. It was awkward and comical all at once.

But that would be a boring episode of 'To catch a predator". Busting moms at Wal-Mart for buying Jonas Brothers school supplies! :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been super busy at work so I've been behind with people's entries. So if you get a reply from me from something your wrote a week ago that's why.
